Whew! This has definitely been one of those weeks....ya know, the type that you don't care to repeat...ever! I will go ahead an warn you now, the past 10 days or so have been "The Douthitts vs. The Stomach Bug"...let's just say, we lost. But, because I want this blog to be a very "real" look at our lives (so that some day when I print these pages into a book, our boys will say "yep, they really do love us!") this post may be a bit yucky! So, as I type, I haven't yet decided what pictures to exclude from the blog. For those of you with weak stomachs, I'll give you a head's up!
The weekend was a great way to kick of the month of June! Our dear friends, the Lankfords, were coming into town for a visit, and we were able to participate in our first Sacred Selections fundraiser with them! Fun, right?? Well, Friday night was great, but I started feeling a bit puny that evening and attributed it to the amount of delicious, carb-filled desserts I ravenously consumed (for a good cause, mind you!) after dinner!
One of those desserts...made and taste-tested right here in our kitchen with Grandma D
Well, Saturday morning both Miles and I weren't feeling so hot. He wasn't holding down anything, and I was hardly able to get out of bed. Sunday morning, I felt a bit better, but poor Miles woke up covered in the worst smelling dirty diaper we have ever seen. So, he and I stayed home from services that morning. Luke and Elijah came home from church and lunch, and Elijah seemed pretty tired. He came up to me and said, "hold you" and just as I was about to pick him up...exorcist style puke. No, seriously, multiple waves of it and we were both covered. Thankfully, Luke was home (and a super-dad for cleaning it all up) and handled it. Thankful for the new maxi-dress fad, I literally picked up the hem of my floor length dress, covered it over both Elijah and myself, and we both got in the shower fully-clothed for a good hose-down. Not funny at the moment, but pretty hilarious now and a moment I don't want to forget.
Checking out the moon post-shower
Able to muster up a smile
Thankfully, Granma D came over on Tuesday to stay with Miles (and do a million loads of laundry!) while Elijah and I escaped the infirmary for groceries and lunch at Costco. Sadly, both of Luke's folks ended up with the "bug" also. :(
By Thursday we were ready for a walk outside, but Elijah didn't quite have the energy to get home...
I did find his "resting" spot quite funny and clever!
When you're stuck inside you'll do anything to entertain your kiddos!
Thursday night I thought we were all well. The boys had played well together, and we had made it all day without diarrhea! When Luke got home, we made dinner and sat out on the porch as the weather had been beautiful all week. Right in the middle of supper it hit poor Miles again. Seriously, we have never had such an explosion that it required taking a child outside to change a diaper in the yard. WARNING, there is a pretty gross poop picture coming up, but I just couldn't let it pass. Miles, you sure were hard to love this week, but hopefully this proves that we think you're worth it! :-)
Miles is pulling up on everything, but still too timid to take any steps
Nice, peaceful dinner on the porch...
...until the atomic diaper bomb...yes, down the leg and out the back, folks!
We had another good day, Friday, and thankfully no blow-outs! I have to share this picture below because it cracked me up! Elijah thinks it's hilarious when I give the boys mohawks in the bathtub, and he always asks me to do it. Well, he brought me this book on Friday, and exclaimed, "Momma, cat has mohawk!" I could not stop laughing at this, and I'll never be able to read this book without cracking up again! So funny!
Friday evening, Luke got home early enough to throw together a picnic and go to the park for dinner! It was another beautiful, cool evening! The boys played hard, and were exhausted when we left (ha, my plan worked!)!
Handsome fellas
Miles was still a bit pitiful, but felt better overall
Miles woke up again Friday night at 3am, but we let him cry it out (after we realized he wasn't covered in poop but just hungry instead). That seemed to work as he hasn't tried that trick since! Saturday we were all well enough to finally get out of the house...and it was just in time for Cooper's birthday party! What a fun afternoon!
Elijah was super-excited on the way to the party
my boys opted for the moon bounce instead of the pools and slipping slide
Sunday was another long, tough day, but by Monday we all seemed to be healed! Very thankful for these smiles to be back on my boys' faces!
And, if you've stuck with me this far, I'm gonna add a couple of funny comments from Elijah. Lately he has been saying some hilarious stuff, and I need to make an effort to write it down so I don't forget!
Yesterday morning, he woke up, and I went and gave him a big hug and said, "I loooooooove Elijah!" He took a long pause and finally replied, "I loooooove poop!" No idea where that one came from!
And, last night in the car, I looked back to find this after Elijah said, "Momma, there's a booga in there!"
Oh, these kiddos! Very thankful for them and their health.
Hand Food & Mouth....check!
Stomach Bug....check!
Hoping we got it all out of the way before summer....super-check!
Have a great week, folks!
Hi Shannon and family!
ReplyDeleteI "re-found" your blog today through one of Rachel's blogs. It was good to see pictures of the family, though I am sorry that you all had to go through the flu so dramatically - especially poor Miles. I am blogging some too. One of my blogs has daily posts - amonthofdays.blogspot.com (This is where I do different projects for 30 days. Last month was Artist Trading Cards and this month is miniatures.) I will be adding your blog to my blogger list, so that I will know when you add new posts.
Hope July is healthier for the Douthitt family!
Happy Independence Day.
