Ok, I was on a blogging roll, and then I jumped into craft mode and started a few sewing projects. But, it's cold, rainy, the boys are finally napping, and I decided it was a good opportunity to sit and type for a bit! What happened to Spring??!! I don't know about you, but it's been cold and wet here for the first week of Spring!! As I was looking back through pics from February for this post I found some from the playgroup with NO JACKETS on! Where did that weather go?!?!
Anyway, here's what we've been up to...
I hate to start with the "ugly", but this photo just landed at the top of the page. Oh, Miles, you are a passionate child, that's for sure. You know what you want, when you want it, and how you want it...but you, "can't always get what you want!" (Right, Sarah C?!!) We sing that song a LOT these days when the boys are uber whiney or they "just want it" (usually something they can't have!).
Costco it a touchy place with Miles.
A) They have samples which are great...but they are mere samples! Miles wants a real meal EVERY time he gets a sample...so, when the bite-size snack is all gone, he does this:
B) He also likes to "help" by holding things that we are purchasing, but the bulk items are usually too big/heavy for him. This also results in the above picture (thank you, hummus, for being in a smaller, non-breakable, non-edible package!)
C) We almost always have lunch while there. In fact, it is so expected by the boys that I'm afraid to try leaving without lunch. I usually get the hotdog meal, and two slices of pizza for the boys. And, if you are familiar with those slices, they are HUGE. However, Miles man-handles them easily, and lately has wanted more which also results in the above picture.
Oh, Miles. The next picture is equally unpleasant and typical. Who knows what caused this uproar, but, again, he's eating. About 90% of his meltdowns revolve around food...not cut right, not what he wants, too hot, too cold, not fast enough, no fork, etc, etc. It really has gotten better. He was doing this for a while at every.single.meal. I am not kidding. But, we've learned to control it to perhaps once a day lately. It's amazing what time-out at meal time can accomplish. It's also amazing how fast these boys can pick up their toys when dinner is ready!
Obviously, Miles has a bit of an anger management issues. So, sometimes we do things like this to blow off some steam...
Elijah got a little bit of cash for his birthday, and I thought it may be a good teaching opportunity. He had been wanting the movie, Bambi, for a long time. Gramma D has it, and they watch it every time they are over there. So, I told him we'd go to Target to buy Bambi with his bday money!
Of course, Bambi is in "the Disney vault"...I had no idea what this meant. Apparently, Bambi is not currently being sold in the retail world because Disney has locked it up until they can "revamp" it and sell it at a new, improved, higher price. He was heartbroken. So, we searched (forever) for an alternative. After vetoing Tinker Bell and some other princess movie, I gave him about 6 options of shows we didn't already have. He looked and looked, but found nothing to strike his fancy.
Until, he perused the book isle, picked this up, flipped the pages, and proclaimed, "I want this!" Absolutely! A book over a movie ANY day!
For some reason, the boys enjoy the (dry) sprinkler park in the winter. It is fun running around it and jumping on the stars.
Valentine project (thanks, Nicole!) that the boys enjoyed. We cut the cardstock in quarters and mailed/gave them to some of our favorite peeps!
Pork Chop oooh ha ha!! Seriously, look at the belly!
Bedtime routine. Always thankful for nights when Luke makes it home before the boys' bedtime!
Ok, I've said it before, but we LOVE the zoo in Memphis, and we go all the time. We went one day with a TON of friends from church. Seriously, there were about 20 of us total. Anyway, it was a gorgeous day, and this is what my boys wanted to do...read Lion King! If you read my last post, you know that they are obsessed with these books from Aunt Lauren. The real lions at the zoo OR Lion King??? Hmmmm....Lion King.
One of our favorites at the zoo..Grizzly Feeding!
Nothing like a nice, leisurely stroll through the zoo admiring God's creation
while reading about fake lions...
Ok, so this next pic has a bit of a story. One Wed afternoon I noticed that Miles was doing his usual "poop stance" (all kids have one, c'mon!). I said, "Hurry, Miles, let's go poo poo on the potty!" Well, he'd heard enough of my bribery attempts with Eljah to know that poop on the potty = chocolate. So, he turns, runs to the bathroom, and yells "Choc choc!" at the top of his lungs...hilarious. We made it to the potty, sat, and wouldn't you know it, he pooped! We clapped, jump, sang the poo poo on the potty song, and celebrated! Of course, both were interested in looking into the toilet to see just what all the celebration was about, and Elijah decided to flush (Miles didn't want to). Well, they were mesmerized...and then terrified! Wish I had captured the looks on their faces when it was gone. Neither of them have let me set them on the potty since then!!! Isn't that crazy!?! I asked Elijah the other day why he wouldn't sit on the potty, and he told me that the "alligators splash too big."
Oh my...these boys!
More nice weather at the park!
Another place we've enjoyed is a newly opened Kids Play in Germantown. Adults are free with a child's admission AND they can jump on all the fun stuff with the kiddos. We always leave there exhausted!
Mary Poppins! For Christmas, Kathy bought 3 of us (sorry, Lydia!) girls tickets to Mary Poppins! We ate at Blue Fin before the show then walked down to the Orpheum to claim our seats. It was fabulous!
Another day at the zoo...this time with Luke on a post-call day!
We decided to try the Young Ave Deli for lunch afterward. It is about 1 mile from the zoo, but Miles couldn't make it. So, we literally propped him up in the booth while we waited for our food. He slept like this for about 30 minutes, and woke up the minute our fries arrived. Pork chop!
And, lastly, to wrap up the first half of the month, we celebrated Valentine's Day morning with some heart-shaped eggs. They boys got a kick out of it!
Have a wonderful weekend!!
