Ah, I really do stink at blogging! But, rather than dwell on that, let's hit it! The second half of January was just as busy as the first half! Robert and Erica came to town for her sister's engagement! We LOVE that we are so close to them now...I mean, 3.5 hrs to Bham is nothing! Also, since Erica is from here and her sister still lives here, we get to see them quite often. The boys are smitten with Erica, and if she's not around Uncle Robert is a close 2nd. ;)
They introduced us to a fun new game called Quirkle! It's kinda like a crazy mix of Dominoes & Rummy but with color/picture coded blocks! Quite fun!
The weekend they were in town just happened to also be the weekend of Mom's birthday. She would have been 58 on January 18th. Since her death we always remember her birthday with fun stories and something chocolate! She would've definitely approved of these lava cakes from Pioneer Woman! They were so easy and delicious that we made them twice that weekend (don't judge!). Honestly, you probably have all the ingredients you need in your pantry at this very moment...you need to get up and go make them! It takes 15 minutes...so, so, yummy!!
just a quick family photo opp before saying adios to Robert & Erica
Next up, Patty & Teagan!! Patty is one of my very best friends from OT school! We had not seen each other for about 2 years (when she flew to PA and we went to Sara Wilson's wedding!), and a visit was long overdue! Patty was a trooper! We were going to drive and meet halfway (somewhere in the middle of nowhere), then my weekend plans changed, then our time was gonna be cut short...yadda yadda. Anyway, after lots of back-and-forth decisions, we finally worked it out for she and Teagan to fly to Memphis (BTW, she was like 32 weeks preggo)....she was a champ about doing all of the hard work, and all I had to do was wait for her to come! And, sadly, I couldn't even keep my boys healthy...so poor Teagan went home with an unwanted souvenir from Memphis. All of that to say, It was such a wonderful, refreshing time with Patty, Teagan and baby girl on the way!
Here's Patty with her real baby and me with my "food" baby (seriously, it takes talent to do that)
Love her and her sweet, gentle spirit! Can't wait to meet her new baby girl (who has since arrived!)
Like I said, the plague hit hard at our house...mainly high fevers for E and upper respiratory for M. It wouldn't surprise me, in hindsight, if either of them had a touch of the flu. Gramma D came one afternoon so I could just leave the house for groceries (and sanity), and I came home to both asleep...Miles just crashed on the floor! Pitiful!
On Saturday afternoon before Elijah's bday, Luke asked me to trim his hair. We bought some of those clippers (the same ones we pay $12 to have done every time at Great Clips) at Costco for $19.99 so I've been doing his hair for a little while. I had never "clipped" the boys' hair, but had used just plain scissors or had it done at the salon. Well, honestly, I got a bit clipper-happy and decided it wouldn't be too bad to use it on the boys...
Miles looked like a different child, and Elijah...well, he looked like he was recovering from chemo.
But, my philosophy on hair is that it grows and the only thing between a good cut and a bad cut is about 2 weeks! So, we went with it, and kinda fell in love with the short "do's" once we styled it.
They both look so much older, though!
This little man CAN be pretty sweet sometimes!
Helping me "clean dishes" one afternoon while getting ready for Elijah's bday. What a silly, loud, crazy, handsome, temperamental, strong-willed, funny boy!
And, finally, a preview of Elijah's bday cake (it may be 3 more weeks before I actually post his bday pics...from January!). He was and still is, obsessed with Lion King. So, I thought, a lion cake couldn't be too difficult! Well, this is what I came up with after hours of perusing Pinterest. It was chocolate on the inside and peanut butter frosting in the layers and on the outside (the decorative frosting was buttercream). I'll have to say, it was pretty tasty!
Ok, so there's my eventful Friday night...checking the blog off of my "to-do" list!
Hope you guys are all doing well! Enjoy your weekend!!
